Establish a trusting relationship: 

Building trust is essential in any coaching relationship, especially when working with someone who has severe depression. We will establish and create a safe and non-judgmental space where the participant feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings.

Listen actively: 

Active listening is a critical skill in coaching. We will listen to what the participant is saying without judgment, and use reflective listening to ensure we understand the participant's perspective. This can help the participant feel heard and understood, which can be very validating.

Help the person identify their goals: 

We will work with the participant to identify their short-term and long-term goals. This can give the participant a sense of purpose and direction, which can be particularly helpful when struggling with depression.

Collaborate on an action plan: 

We will develop an action plan together that includes specific steps the participant can take to work towards their goals. We will encourage the participant to start with small, achievable steps, and help the participant celebrate their successes along the way.

Offer support and accountability: 

As a recovery coach, it's important to be available for ongoing support and accountability. We will check in regularly to see how the participant is doing and help them stay motivated to continue working towards their goals.

Encourage self-care: 

We will encourage the participant to prioritize self-care activities that can help improve their mental health, such as exercise, meditation, healthy eating, and getting enough rest.
